South Beach.....Where Are We?

For those of you unaware, I left Patrick with the babies for 4 full days and took a hiatus to South Beach Miami with the girls. Everyone was alive when I returned and I think that's all I need to know.

Each girls trip we have been on has been completely different, but equally memorable. This year we all achieved suntans and R&R as planned, but for me our nightlife expectations were not quite fulfilled. I'm sure it has to do with getting older, different lifestyles etc., but on vacation I expected to let loose a little and maybe have one "late" night out dancing. That was so far off from happening that we wondered where the heck we were. The night scene was definitely not one we could mold to (not even for a day) or fit in. Everything started hours later than we could bare and the music everywhere was not what we typically enjoy. One night we all wore our "going out" outfits feeling a little less dressed than you might usually find us- we look around and we look like nuns (as Tasha so perfectly put it) compared to the crowd.

Another twist in the trip was that there was a huge festival going on for 3 full days at the beach -there were these big beach parties going on everywhere with live dj's (not mc's..there is a difference) etc. so we go to see what it was all about.....hundreds of beautiful men much more interested in each other than any woman walking by...quite an unexpected scene. Our men at home were actually thrilled to hear this when we told them about it over the phone :)

Once we were over what I guess you can call culture shock, we decided to get all we could out of beautiful South Beach...aside from the nightlife. We stayed in the art deco district filled with some old some new hotels modeled after the 80's I think- bright colors, neat architecture.... The streets were lined with palm trees and cute outdoor cafe's all over the place. We walked everywhere and saw a cute little Colombian district, shopping area, fancy cars, and beach front parks. The hotels were gorgeous, with stunning pool cabanas and pool bars with big beds to lounge on day or night. We all agreed we will go back there because it is so pretty and there is so much to see and do, but next time I think we might have a different expectation- I think in a way it was wayyyy beyond the one's we had. It was a wonderful break from my day to day life of many "hats"- I can hear the Allison ipod beach mix now!
