A little case of Hives
So one lovely evening this week, while Patrick was on travel in Texas, the boys and I were playing outside doing our normal activities (sidewalk chalk, riding all wheeled items, throwing a ball, etc.).....until Cooper starting crying and itching his arm. I look down and it is welting up bright red and spreading. I finish putting anti-itch cream on his arm and look over and the other arm is covered and by time I finish that both legs are covered. Cooper now has no shirt on and panic mode takes over. "What if his throat closes up?" I hurrily put both boys in the car and rush to the pharmacy and quickly dose Cooper with Benadryl before we even make it to the Urgent Care Clinic. (Remember Cooper has no shirt on). I have no bottle for Carter or anything. Thankfully as we are waiting I see the Benadryl helping and things going down a tiny bit but the doctor gives Cooper some steroids with a scrip for 4 days to continue. He said it was definitely contact hives due to its depth and color and not poison ivy or anything like that. Now I have no idea what he got in to in the yard that we play in every day so now I am worried it could happen again.....but now I will never go without Benadryl in the house. Oh yes, quick question- have you ever given a 2 year old liquid steroid? Let's see, a good description- ah- from half falling asleep to literally bouncing off the walls....for hours. Thank goodness for only 4 days and all signs of bumps are gone.
